Chung-Ang University, under President Sang-Kyu Park, introduces digital badges to support education records verification without concerns of tampering. It also establishes a foundation for fostering global talents.

On the 21st, Chung-Ang University announced the introduction of digital badges, starting with the issuance of certificates for industry-academic cooperation programs and non-curricular online education courses jointly operated with LG CNS. Chung-Ang University plans to expand the scope to include more educational programs, competitions, and activities in the future, and aims to collaborate with overseas companies and educational institutions.

Digital badges are digital credentials issued in badge form to represent achievements in learning, skills, and competencies. Stored in mobile apps, these badges are utilized for various purposes including educational qualifications, awards, licenses, endorsements, and more.

Chung-Ang University plans to pilot the digital badge service on industry-academic cooperation programs and online courses produced by the Remote Education Support Center from the end of this month until January next year. The full operation is scheduled to commence in March next year.

The pilot operation will focus on Chung-Ang University's LGPerfecTwin education program in collaboration with LG CNS and the Integrated Industry Security program. Upon completion of courses such as Privacy Protection and Pseudonymization, Data Transformation and Integrated Security, Coding-Free Software Development, and Basic Big Data Analysis, participants will receive digital badges as certificates after quizzes, discussions, and exams.

Starting from March next year, Chung-Ang University plans to formally launch its service, expanding the application of digital badges to various education programs such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Metaverse, Blockchain, Culture and Content. The university intends to collaborate with corporations and job sites to explore ways to utilize digital badges for employment purposes. Additionally, it aims to broaden the scope by certifying external activities such as competitions and certification acquisition.

There are plans to integrate badges with social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. The university intends to enable badge management through its e-portfolio system and expand the system to manage both NFT diplomas and digital badges in a single wallet. Chung-Ang University plans to establish a robust support system for global talent development by collaborating with overseas educational institutions and global corporations.

Chung-Ang University's newly introduced digital badges are implemented through the 'OmniOne Badge,' based on RaonSecure'ssubsidiary RaonWhiteHat'sblockchain digital ID. The OmniOne Badge leverages blockchain-based identity verification, ensuring tamper-proof security without the need for a separate system. It operates as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, facilitating the issuance of digital badges. Previously, Chung-Ang University collaborated with RaonWhiteHatto issue NFT diplomas to over 2,000 graduates last year.

President Sang-Kyu Park stated, "We plan to support the development of individuals' expertise and competencies by utilizing blockchain technology to issue digital badges. We expect that this will not only motivate engagement in various learning and experiences but also enhance the sense of achievement." He added, "In addition to providing a safe and convenient learning experience and certification, we will continue to expand partnerships domestically and internationally to create a foundation for students to grow into global talents."
